Work Experience will commence in Term 3, Week 9 – from 21 September to 25 September, 2009.
All Year 10 students have been given their Stage 1 Work Experience Booklet and lessons. It is imperative to act on finding a suitable placement as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Some organisations will only permit a couple of students per year or per school, to experience their industry. Most employers go with the rule on a first-in, first-serve basis. The below options were made available to students in Term 4, 2008.
NURSING:
Students who have a genuine interest in nursing and would like to do their work experience as a nurse, must see Miss Awadalla before the end of term. Organisation for nursing placements must commence now.
DEFENCE FORCE:
Student who have a genuine interest in the Defence Force – Air Force, Navy and Army, must visit www.defence.gov.au, type in the words ‘work experience’ in the search box on the bottom left-hand side of the screen, and download the Work Experience application form. Complete your section then return it to Miss Awadalla.
TARONGA PARK ZOO:
Those who have a love for animals, for their welfare and conservation and would like to undertake their work experience at Taronga Park Zoo, need to visit
www.taronga.org.au. Type in ‘work experience’ in the search box and download the application form.
NSW FIRE BRIGADE:
Students who aspire to becoming a NSW Fire Fighter and has a genuine interest in the Fire Brigade must see Miss Awadalla for an application form.
NSW POLICE FORCE:
Details of the continuing Work Experience Program is unknown. Those interested please see Miss Awadalla to register your expression of interest, in the event it may proceed in 2009.
www.schooltowork.com.au provides a shortcut to Vocational Education in Schools internet and intranet resources and links.
From the site, students go via the Department’s (DET) portal to Logbook Online and the Student Pathways Survey. Teachers with DET portal access can freely explore relevant internet and intranet content. Parents and community members are taken directly to material on the Department’s School to Work internet site designed for them to support young people’s career development.
